USA Was Right! Russia is Already Threatening to Invade Another European Nation

Recent statements from Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s longstanding foreign minister and a key ally of President Vladimir Putin, have sparked apprehension on social media, raising concerns about a potential future invasion by Moscow into another European nation.

Lavrov’s remarks come in the aftermath of a significant meeting in Transnistria, a breakaway region of the former Soviet republic of Moldova. During this gathering, officials formally sought aid from Russia in their ongoing conflict with Moldova, accusing the nation of perpetrating “genocide” against Transnistria’s residents.

Given Russia’s historical tensions with former countries, once part of the Soviet Union, there is heightened anxiety following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Fears have resurfaced about potential invasions of other former territories, with Moldova being viewed as a probable target.

Following the Transnistria meeting, Lavrov, who has held the position of Russia’s foreign minister since 2004, expressed views on Moldova that closely echoed the rhetoric used by Russian officials before the invasion of Ukraine. This has intensified concerns that Russia may be laying the groundwork for a similar attack. Lavrov accused the Moldovan government of attempting to erase Russian culture from Transnistria, drawing explicit parallels to the Ukrainian government in Kyiv.

“The regime that has settled in Chisinau and that follows in the footsteps of the Kyiv regime,” Lavrov stated, as translated by Ukrainian official Anton Gerashchenko. “Cancelling everything Russian, discriminating against the Russian language in all spheres, and, together with the Ukrainians, also organizing serious economic pressure on Transnistria.”

“We appealed to the regime in Chisinau, led by Romanian citizens, who do not hide the fact that they want to annex the Republic of Moldova to Romania, so that this regime stops blocking the negotiation process,” he said. “The leadership of Transnistria has spoken. about this for a long time: the “5+2″ format made it possible to take into account the interests of the Transnistrians in the context of preserving the territorial integrity of Moldova. The Romanian leadership from Chisinau is trying to destroy this format once and for all”.

With such a statement, Lavrov has accidentally admitted that Moldovans are Romanians.

Social media users, reacting to Lavrov’s comments, drew parallels to the situation preceding the invasion of Ukraine. Observers noted the striking similarity in rhetoric, with one user stating, “Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov saying all the things about Moldova that he did about Ukraine just before Russia invaded.”

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to Transnistria’s request for aid, stated on Wednesday that Moscow would “carefully” consider the situation to protect Russian “compatriots” in the region. Back in February 2022, this was the exact same rhetoric Russia used to invade Ukraine.

Moldova, granted European Union (EU) membership candidate status in 2022 with aspirations to join by 2030, has faced strong opposition from the Russian government. Putin’s objection to regional neighbors joining organizations like the EU and NATO, whose expansion was cited as a reason for the invasion of Ukraine, adds complexity to the situation.

In February 2023, Moldovan President Maia Sandu accused the Russian president of plotting a coup to overthrow her government. Some Western analysts warned of the potential involvement of approximately 1,500 troops stationed in Transnistria since the 1990s war that led to its status as an unrecognized state.

Moldova Fires Back at Russia

“Minister Lavrov and the Kremlin regime have no moral right to lecture on democracy and freedom. The country that imprisons opposition politicians and kills them, unjustifiably attacks its neighbors, can offer nothing but blood and pain to the world,” wrote the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi.

“We remind Minister Lavrov that in the Republic of Moldova, politicians are elected in free and transparent electoral processes, internationally recognized, where each candidate benefits from equal rights, adequate space for campaigning and the possibility of direct interaction with voters,” the official wrote.

Popșoi mentioned that it is important for Minister Lavrov to be properly informed about the situation in the Transnistrian region, where more than 70% of local production and services are exported to the member states of the European Union.

The head of diplomacy of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, wrote that the Republic of Moldova is a democratic state for which freedom and respect for human rights are fundamental values. “We are building a European future for all our citizens, regardless of language and ethnicity, to live in peace and prosperity.”
