The Russian soldier Andrej Medvedev, who sought asylum in Norway, was arrested on Wednesday night after he participated in a fight outside a pub in Oslo, Norwegian TV2 reports.

Medvedev sought asylum in Norway and said he was prepared to testify against the leader of the Wagner group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, also known as “Putin’s chef”.

But after a pub fight this week, he ended up in custody in Oslo, and there he is said to have resisted and kicked at least one of the staff. He is therefore also suspected of violence against an official.

According to Medvedev’s lawyer, Brynjulf Risnes, he denies any crime.

He says that there was a misunderstanding in town after consuming alcohol, and has explained that he did not understand what happened when the police arrived at the scene, he tells TV2.

Medvedev was released later on Wednesday.
