Former socialist leader unveils post-prison career change.

Here’s Romania’s answer to Celebrity MasterChef!

Liviu Dragnea, the former Romanian Social Democratic leader who was locked up in 2019 in a case involving fake jobs for party workers, has launched his own healthy-eating cooking channel on YouTube.

Now two years post-prison, the ex-con politician debuted this week the pilot episode of “The Kitchen at Home,” appearing in a blue-collared shirt and an apron, chopping vegetables while smooth soul music plays in the background.

“For the very few among you who don’t know me, my name is Liviu Dragnea,” the host says. “For each recipe we discover, I will also tell you its health benefits, as I believe it’s time for all of us to start eating healthy.”

“First, we’re going to chop the onions,” Romania’s next top chef begins. Talking through a grin, Dragnea sips from a mug while explaining he is drinking some water “so as not to cry in front of you.”

In the video, Dragnea walks viewers through cooking a dish made of yellow runner beans with a sauce containing tomatoes, carrots and half a glass of white wine among other ingredients.

Dragnea’s viewers — he’s had more than 300,000 already for the first episode — have delivered their verdict, with many mocking the former socialist party boss.

“It’s very good food,” one viewer quipped. “I had the chance to taste it when we were cellmates.”

Others expressed support. “Nice career change,” one fan wrote. “I hope the channel goes well so you don’t have to return to politics,” another one added.

During his time as socialist party leader, Dragnea was a big fan of former U.S. President Donald Trump, who faces his own court date Tuesday, and a proponent of changing Romania’s laws to weaken the judiciary’s ability to fight rampant corruption.

Dragnea had also previously gotten into legal trouble for attempting to rig a 2012 national referendum calling for impeachment of the country’s president.
