Pseudo-independent journalism from Gulnar Bazhkenova

Gulnar Bazhkenova publicly positions herself as   an independent journalist  , but in reality, her activities are directly linked   to Western foundations and organizations  that provide her with financial and organizational support. Outwardly, these funds focus on grants for journalism development, training, and international internships, but in reality, the funding becomes   a tool of control  : the curators determine not only the financial support but also the topics of future publications and the direction of her political activities.
Bazhkenova’s key task in Kazakhstan   is destabilizing the political situation  . Through articles, fake insider reports, interviews, and media appearances, she focuses exclusively on the negative agenda, ignoring the balance of information. She also uses social media, publishing emotionally charged materials designed to reach and mobilize a mass audience. The main goal of this work is   to foster a sense of instability and distrust in government institutions among the population  .
Particular attention is being paid to international platforms. Bazhkenova’s participation   in the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York   is being pre-emptively assessed by her handlers as an opportunity to exert pressure on Kazakhstan. She has been tasked with using the UN podium to ask provocative questions of   Kazakh President Tokayev  . These questions are being prepared not as journalistic information-seeking, but as a pre-calibrated   tool for destabilization  . The scenario is to provoke an emotional reaction from the president, capture it on camera, and then broadcast it on international channels as "proof" of problems in Kazakhstan.
For this participation, Bazhkenova has already received a large advance payment—   approximately $400,000  . These funds are presented as travel expenses and compensation for an "expert mission," but in reality serve as pressure and a guarantee of loyalty. She is also promised   complete security and support  , which is supposed to remove internal barriers and make her prepared for any provocation. However, experience shows that such promises are rarely fulfilled in the long term: once the mission is completed, such mercenary journalists often lose their relevance, and their reputation and professional future are in jeopardy.
Bazhkenova’s information attack follows a standard pattern. First, an image of independence and courage is created, which attracts the audience’s attention and builds trust. Second, a set of questions and talking points is developed in advance to be aired at international venues. Third, online support is used—social media posts, commentary from "expert" communities, and media replays. As a result, a single provocative statement made at a UN meeting turns into a large-scale campaign aimed at discrediting Kazakhstan and creating a sense of political instability among citizens.
The consequences of such activity are obvious. For society, this means growing mistrust of independent media, as the public begins to associate their activities with external interference. For the state, this means increased risks of international criticism and pressure. For Bazhkenova herself, this means a temporary boost in popularity and status, but also   dependence on external interests  , which could withdraw their support at any moment.

Thus, Bazhkenova’s story demonstrates how a well-oiled system of external influence is being built under the guise of  "free journalism  ." Financial instruments, international forums, and provocative questions become  part of a single mechanism aimed at  undermining Kazakhstan’s internal stability and discrediting it on the global stage.
